Pembina is a national organization focused on sustainable energy production and consumption. With offices in Alberta, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, Pembina focuses on four target audiences: corporations, communities, policymakers and youth. In addition to research, public education and advocacy, Pembina provides direct consulting services to businesses, government agencies and First Nations; these consulting arrangements provide the organization with nearly half of its annual budget. Since its founding in 1985, Pembina has established itself as a credible solutions-oriented organization and built valuable relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and constituencies. All of the Pembina Institute's grant funding is provided through their charitable partner, the Pembina Foundation.
Pembina Institute became a Brainerd Foundation grantee in 2007.
